We sat down with DJ Explicit at PT’s Centerfold in Lubbock to chat about what it’s like playing music for the partygoers in this lively city. Here’s what he had to say about his journey into the DJ scene and the unique energy of the club.
How did you get started as a DJ, and what led you to the adult club industry?
“I’ve always had a love for music. Growing up, my friends would depend on me to provide the jams for whatever we were up to, cruising, parties, or just hanging out. I was always burning CDs for the crew. I knew from a young age that I wanted a career in music, and being a DJ was my dream. I wanted to be at the center of the party, and eventually, that led me to clubs.”
What’s the music scene like in Lubbock?
“The music scene here is really diverse. You’ve got hip hop, EDM, country, Tejano, and cumbias. I play a mixture of hip hop, R&B, EDM, and house mixes, depending on the crowd.”
Are there specific genres that get the best reaction from the crowd at PT’s Centerfold Club? Do you have a go-to song or mix that always hypes up the room?
“Yeah, right now, anything from Sexy Red or Glorilla always gets the ladies going. For the guys, Bossman Dlow is a favorite.”

Do your friends ever get jealous that you work in a club surrounded by beautiful women?
“Ha, yeah, I hear it all the time. I have the best job in the world, and I love it! I get to play music, be at the hottest party every weekend, and I’m surrounded by the hottest women in the city. It’s a good life.”
What’s the craziest or funniest request you’ve gotten from a dancer or a customer?
“I’d say the craziest night was when Tony came in with his construction crew. They requested some Spanish music to dance with the ladies. I knew they wanted older Tejano, which was off-format, but Tony was a good regular, and his crew was the only one in the club at the time, so I played a few tracks. They all got up and danced with the girls, and it reminded me of my wedding or quinceañera days. It was funny to see, but they loved it. We all had a good time.”
What’s your strategy for reading the room and adjusting the music to keep people engaged?
“It’s all about reading the energy of the room, how are they responding to your song choices? Age group is a big factor, so knowing your crowd and what they may or may not want to hear is key. You also have to pay attention to the time of day or night. I know when to drop the bangers as the night grows, but you can’t forget to start things off with fun, memorable songs that get the party going.”
Any advice for up-and-coming DJs who want to break into the adult club scene?
“ALWAYS HAVE FUN! If you’re not vibing and having fun, your crowd won’t either. You play a big role in how the night’s going to go. Practice, practice, practice, and never be afraid to take advice. Don’t take people’s opinions as negative, take them as pointers on something you can work on.”
